The idea revolves around addressing the challenges faced by the pharmaceutical industry in India due to over-dependence on imports for critical raw materials, specifically active pharma ingredients (APIs). The goal is to develop novel and cost-effective processes for the manufacturing of APIs and their intermediates, aiming to achieve self-reliance in the pharma sector. By focusing on the synthesis of APIs like febuxostat, we aim to optimize the existing manufacturing procedures which suffer from drawbacks like high costs, multiple steps with low yields, impurities, and the use of hazardous chemicals. Our approach involves designing a streamlined synthetic route that reduces the number of steps. By utilizing alternative reagents, greener solvents, and milder reaction conditions, we aim to develop a more efficient and sustainable process. This would not only improve the overall yield and cost-effectiveness but also minimize the environmental impact associated with traditional methods.
