In India, the waste management sector is highly informal and the segregation of waste is governed majorly by waste pickers hired/collaborated by the Material Recovery facilities (MRFs) after the collection of the mixed waste from SOURCE. This impacts the health and dignity of waste pickers along with less efficiency and no proper system in place for indoor public spaces like institutions, corporate offices, airports, etc... We at Mr bin work towards developing a product (bin) which can segregate waste at SOURCE automatically through Object recognition and Machine Learning into recyclable, non-recyclable and compostable entities along with notifying the nearest Material Recovery facility to collect the gathered waste respectively. This will help these places gain more sustainable approaches to financial and environmentally friendly options in opposition to the informal and inefficient processes followed by institutes currently.
