Post-stroke disability (the third largest disability globally) is becoming alarmingly common in working population leading to financial crisis, developing low self-esteem, social isolation, and depression. Hand being critically required for almost every activity; its rehabilitation is crucial for patients to attain socio-economic freedom. Rehabilitation requires rigorous exercise practice, task-specific training, continuous monitoring, feedback, and motivation which conventional therapy is not able to provide simultaneously. Robotic systems are highly effective but are expensive, offer lower efficacy, and lack of customization limiting their widespread adoption in India. We are therefore developing a portable, affordable robotic exoskeleton tele-rehabilitation system to help patients recover faster by performing intelligently assisted exercises under remote expert supervision.
