Shortage of availability of skilled specialists in microvascular surgery leads to around 1,00,000 preventable amputations in India every year. To address this lack of high-end surgical skill, Anand decided to create the Shira Clamp. Shira Clamp is a thumbnail sized device that makes the surgical process of coupling of small blood vessels easier and faster. Shira Clamp helps the surgeons by temporarily stopping the blood flow and favourably orienting the blood vessels. Shira Clamps reduce the learning curve and operation time for junior surgeons and non-specialists, thus enabling them to perform microvascular surgeries and provide high quality surgical care.
