Mastitis is an udder infection and inflammation wherein the udder of the cow swells up and it impairs the blood milk barrier & results in compromised tight junctions & secretion of blood, antibodies, immune cells from the vasculature into the milk. This disease causes 3% milk (9Bn Liters) wastage annually & decreases milk yield. Hybrid cows are prone to mastitis. This results in higher vet bills, antibiotic costs, and economic losses. With recurrence antimicrobial resistance develops, cow udder fails leading to inevitable culling of cow. We have developed a device which can be used cow-side for early detection of mastitis using only 20 ml of milk which can be repooled with bulk milk. The device display and android app is in different languages, colors to indicate mastitis level. The parameters are normalized and converted into weighted index and various algorithms are considered to predict mastitis. Our device gives early detection and has app facility for tracking & herd management.
