Approximately 0.5% to 3% of patients undergoing surgery and are associated surgical site infection (SSI) which can be triggered by the use of biomedical materials such as sutures. Suture hypersensitivity refers to the clinical entities resulting from an exaggerated immunologic response triggered by the presence of a suture material. Therefore, to overcome the challenges and complications posed by the commercial sutures we demonstrate HASIL is a hyaluronic acid-modified commercial silk suture. The product showed good dimensional stability to be handled with enhanced mechanical properties, anti-inflammatory properties, drug loading and release capability, low friction, biocompatibility and biodegradability. Thus reduces the high socio-economic burden on the healthcare systems, and prolonged hospital stays.
